LOG DETECTOR DELIVERS BEST DYNAMIC RANGE AND PRECISION OVER TEMPERATURE

The MAX2015 is available in a space-saving, 8-pin microMAX package,  making it ideal as a drop-in replacement for the AD8313 log ampMaxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2015, the industry's first RF log amplifier? to fully cover the 0.1GHz to 2.5GHz band with exceptional dynamic? range and ±1dB precision over temperature. The device can be? configured as a simple RF power detector or as a complete closed-loop? controller. The outstanding combination of precision and dynamic? range makes this log amplifier particularly

useful in a variety of? base station and other wireless applications including automatic gain? control (AGC), transmitter power measurements, and? received-signal-strength indication (RSSI) circuitry.?? While maintaining ±3dB log conformance at 25 degrees Celsius, the? MAX2015 provides dynamic ranges of 75dB, 65dB, and 45dB for 900MHz,? 1900MHz and 2500MHz, respectively. The key to the MAX2015's success? is, however, its superior precision over temperature and supply. At? 900MHz, this device delivers 55dB of dynamic range with ±1dB of? precision over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius? temperature range. Measurements at 1900MHz and 2500MHz are equally? impressive with dynamic ranges of 46dB and 38dB, respectively, under? the same precision and temperature constraints. Offering ±0.25dB? precision over Vcc ± 15%, it is also virtually unaffected by? voltage-supply variations. These precision levels significantly? enhance the accuracy of an RF power measurement.

In most instances, the ±1dB precision over temperature will provide? ample margin in detector accuracy. However, other applications may? seek even greater levels of accuracy through use of temperature-based? lookup tables.
